Islas Contoy & Mujeres
Caribbean dream
Visit of 2 islands in just one day
Our tour will take you first to paradise island Isla Contoy in the middle of the Caribbean and then to the vivid island Isla Mujeres. So get to know both islands, both beautiful in a complete different way.
Isla Contoy is located about 50 km northeast of Cancun and is completely uninhabited.
Despite its small area of just 3.17 km², Isla Contoy is home to more than 150 different bird species, 98 plant species and is also a nesting site for 4 species of sea turtles. Between May and September whale sharks and manta rays can be observed in the area.
The island of Contoy has been a protected area since 1961 and was declared a national park in 1998.
To protect this paradise, only 150 visitors are allowed daily. Only a small part of the 8 km long and 500 m wide island is open to the public.
Between an awesome beach, palm trees and crystal clear water Isla Contoy gives you a breathtaking scenery to dream and enjoy.
Isla Mujeres has a very special Caribbean charm and is one of the most beautiful Caribbean islands in Mexico. Translated from Spanish, the name means "women's island".
The popular island is located in the north of Yucatan, 13 km north-east of Cancun and is just 7 km long and 650 m wide.
Isla Mujeres was discovered in 1517 by the Spaniard Francisco Hernandez de Cordoba. During the Spanish conquest, the island was an important strategic trading point.
Nowadays, "Women's Island" is a popular tourist destination without losing its island character.

Detailed tour description:
Our approximately 50-minute boat trip to Contoy Island takes us northeast of Cancun, past Isla Mujeres and Isla Blanca.
We enjoy the wonderful view of the colors of the Caribbean and, with luck, we can occasionally spot a turtle or two along the way.
When we arrive on Isla Contoy, we come across a deserted, paradisiacal beach. Since we are usually the first there, you can enjoy the peace and quiet in a relaxed manner. There is plenty of time for swimming and taking photos before we go on a guided tour of the island.
We'll show you the museum of the Contoy National Park and climb the observation tower to enjoy the view over the island.
At the end of our stay on Contoy, we enjoy a freshly prepared grilled lunch under “palapas”. Our captains prepare delicious fish and chicken for us, along with rice, salad and fruit.
After leaving Isla Contoy we drive only about 15 minutes until we reach theReach the "Ixlache" reef, which is part of the second largest reef system in the world, the Mesoamerican reef. During our snorkeling stop, we explore the underwater world with its countless, colorful fish and various coral formations.
Next, our boat trip takes us to the contrasting and more lively island Isla Mujeres.
Here you will have 1 hour free time to explore a part of the island. Stroll leisurely through the alleys of the old town, with souvenir shops, bars and colourful murals.
The white sandy beaches, or the promenade on the east coast, also invite you to take a walk or to relax before returning to your hotels.
Important information:
The island of Contoy is a National Park, therefore smoking is not allowed during your stay on the island.
Snorkeling is done by jumping off the boat, the return is via a ladder. Life jackets and fins are mandatory.
The Ixlaché Reef is subject to fluctuating current and visibility conditions. In exceptional cases, it may not be possible to snorkel.
There are sometimes more and sometimes less swell at sea, so we advise pregnant women and people with severe back problems (e.g. spinal discs) against this tour.
Current (as of January 2024): Climbing the observation tower is unfortunately not possible at the moment due to repair work.
It is not permitted to apply sun cream on Isla Contoy, the last time this is possible is before departure by boat.
We ask you to refrain from using sunscreen on our tours if possible, as it damages the corals and the underwater world when snorkeling. We recommend long-sleeved T-shirts (Lycra or UV) and head protection (cap, hat or similar).
Don't forget to take with you:
-
swimwear, towel, sunglasses, sun hat, sandals (closed shoes are not necessary)
-
long sleeve t-shirt for sun protection, snorkeling and swimming
-
biodegradable sunscreen
-
change of clothes if necessary
-
maybe a camera
-
money for personal expenses and tips where applicable, e.g. for our drivers and captains
