Cenotes - mysterious caves
Our excursion takes us into the middle of the jungle, with its underground water sources, the cenotes.
The formation of the cenotes began about 65 million years ago when an asteroid with a diameter of about 10 - 15 km hit the north of the Yucatan Peninsula. The resulting crater "Chicxulub" is one of the largest on earth with a diameter of approx. 180 km.
Due to the collapse of cave ceilings and the dissolution of limestone, an underground freshwater river system has formed. It is believed that there are around 10,000 cenotes on the Yucatan Peninsula, less than half of which have been discovered to date.
The Mayans used the cenotes as a source of drinking water and hence the name "ts'onot", which means "place with access to drinking water".
Amazing formations, fossils, crystal clear water and mesmerizing light have made the cenotes a highlight for snorkelers and divers nowadays.

Detailed tour description:
Our little adventure in the jungle begins between Playa del Carmen and Tulum.
After a safety briefing on driving ATV's (automatic) we start into the jungle.
We drive over a partly level and partly uneven route, which is demanding in places, but is also suitable for the inexperienced. Afterwards we will abseil from a height of about 10 m into a cenote (access is also possible via stairs). Here we can marvel at the subterranean rock formations and the beautiful incidence of light. Then 2 more semi-closed cenotes are waiting for us, all of them different in their own way and also suitable for great photos.
Afterwards we drive to an open cenote for swimming, where we can enjoy the wonderfully clear water. For the brave there are 2 different platforms to jump into. A look under water is also worthwhile, here you can admire various small freshwater fish and the underground plants.
After all the action, there will be a typical lunch in the neighboring village before we take you back to your hotels.
